We woke up to hazy but clear skies. The horn from a boat beeped on the river and some words were spoken over a loudspeaker. I didn’t understand any of it but maybe it was a passenger ferry announcing its next stop.
Our first order of business was to go to the grocery store and buy more food. This has been an interesting experience so far. There’s so many strange things to try, all of which I can’t even read. Luckily bananas are bananas and yogurt is yogurt and ramen noodles are ramen noodles. It helps when there are pictures of the food on the package so you know what you are getting yourself into.
Packed full of wierd food we set off again on the path. Soon the path ended and we shared a quiet road for the rest of the day. The road wound out of the city and away from the river and climbed into the mountains. There were a few steep climbs and the second one was really tough. It ended at a pass where there was a tunnel connecting the north and south sides of the mountain. There was a restaurant and a store at the top and there were a few cars up there and people taking in the sights and snapping pictures.
We decended down the other side and stopped for the day in Meungyeoung Spa, a small town nestled in a valley between towering mountains. We are staying at a small motel here. The room is small but nice and it was good to take a shower. We walked around the small city and grabbed dinner at a small place where they had pictures of food. We ended up getting some kind of sushi roll and dumplings which have been the best food so far we have found in Korea.
The climbing wore us both out today and we are watching the only English speaking television station before sleep gets the better of us.
