We had a quick 6 mile road walk into the bustling metropolis of Seiad Valley, which consisted of a single building which had a cafe and store and an RV Park next door.
We had some breakfast at the cafe, which was stuffed with filthy hiker trash, all eating pancakes and omelettes and breakfast burritos until they threw up.
After grabbing a few items at the store, we headed back out into the warming sun. What lay ahead was one of the toughest climbs yet. A startling 8 mile slog up 5000 feet of elevation gain. And a slog it was, willing our bodies upward into the too steep slopes of the mountainsides as sweat cascaded off our foreheads at an alarming rate. It took us almost 5 hours to get to the top, but we made it there eventually.
We hiked only a few more miles after summiting and stopped early by a small stream. Tommorrow will be our last day hiking in California. The Oregon border is only 24 miles or so away. We are very excited to be leaving CA behind- we have certainly overstayed our welcome here. It is time to move on.
