Zero Day in Shasta
Legend holds that mystical giants called Lumarians live within Mt. Shasta. They hail from the lost continent of Lumaria. They have constructed tunnels within the mountain and are an advanced civilization of 7 foot tall creatures, sometimes seen roaming the mountain slopes in white robes. Real people believe this.
The city of Mount Shasta is a mystical place. People peruse the streets with crystal pendants around their necks and harem pants flapping in the almost breeze. They shop at the whole food store in droves, buying black bean chips and Kamboocha and organic garlic that goes for 3 dollars a clove. There are a variety of medical marijuana dispensaries with names like The Green Wellness center and Herbal Healing Emporium. People drive Subarus and VW vans and electric cars, and some people drive no cars at all and walk around main street barefoot and shop at thrift stores.
It’s eclectic and fun and we enjoyed our day off here, grabbing breakfast early in the morning and going to the grocery store. Visiting the outfitter where Carolyn bought some better shoes and going to the movies to see The Secret Life of Pets.
Tommorrow we head back out into the heat and into something called the Trinity Alps Wilderness. It’s hard to leave town but the walking must continue.
According to your GPS coordinates, if you were driving up I-75, you would have stopped in North Baltimore, OH. That said, in the next few days you will be passing through Perrysburg, Oregon and the Michigan line.
Sending well wishes about 2,200 miles longitudinally West!
Thanks, Ken, I’ll fix those coordinates!
