Another incredibly hot day, near 100. The shade offers limited protection at this point. Even the deep shade. This is the shade way down in the forest where no light gets to and where mushrooms grow. The deep shade offers a cool atmosphere like how a walk in freezer feels after going through a Bikram yoga session. But not today. The deep shade was awful and sticky and the air was even hot to breath, like if you stuck your head in an oven and breathed in through your nose. The smell of burnt hair filters into your heavy lungs and you gasp breathing all the hot air into your stomach like a fish gulping air as it is pulled by a fisherman from the sea.

The air was so hot today that you sweat sitting in the deep shade. Beads of water drip from your forehead into your eyebrows and continue further down, stinging your eyes and making you bleary eyed. Sweat collects under the creases of your stinky armpits and soaks your dirt stained shirt. It drips from your lower back into your butt crack making you feel like you just had explosive diarrhea in your underwear.

Tomorrow it is going to be hotter. The next day hotter that that. It’s not going to get cooler for the next 4 days. It is going to be miserable. Luckily we are hiking to town tommorrow and plan to take a zero day the day after. That will get us through some of it. But it will be waiting for us when we get back, a tiger in the dusk, ready to jump out and massacre its prey.
