Good views today once we got out of the 10 mile forest walk. We passed a few ski resorts, one of which was Squaw Valley. The trail traversed the back sides of the mountains where the top of the ski lifts were. There were lots of signs for ski boundaries and trails. It was interesting to look down some of the runs that were black diamonds without snow.
We are camped about 10.5 miles from Donner Pass. We were going to go into Truckee but I had some cell service and hotels are really expensive (Weekend, ugh). There is a lodge type place only 1.5 miles from Donner Pass so we are going to check that out and see if they will let us pay for a shower and if not maybe stay there.
It seems as all the snow is gone now where we are. Some very rare peaches here and there but very few. The mountains are now lower and rolling. It is a pleasant change. The wild flowers are now full in bloom. There are so many different ones it’s hard to keep them all straight in my head. I wish I knew the names of some but I’m bad with that kind of stuff.
There are lots of backpackers and hikers out here that we pass everyday. I thought it was interesting how we never saw any day hikers or weekend backpackers in the desert sections, but now there are so many. People must not like the heat.
