PCT: Day 52

June 11th, 2016

Zero Day in Independance

We woke up at first light ready to pack up our stuff as quickly as possible to get out of the park before we were noticed. We both didn’t get much sleep but that was okay.

We went to breakfast and received crappy service, yet again, by account of a misplaced order to the kitchen and a sliver of hair found resting on top of a piece of buttered wheat toast.

We visited the grocery after breakfast to buy food for the almost 90 mile next stretch and hitched back to the town of Independence afterwords.

Dark clouds loomed within the Sierra range during our ride, and a quick weather check notified us of severe weather for the next few days, including rain and snow and thunder and lightning. We made the executive order to stay put and allow the system to blow over, so we are stationed at the Independance Inn for tonight and tomorrow night.

It’s raining with a big thunderstorm in the valley right now. I’m sitting outside drinking a beer as lightning bursts white across the sky, like someone taking a picture in a cave with the flash on. The softly dripping raindrops are soothing, only because we are indoors, and not in the mountains, a dark and foreboding place to be at this unfortunate point in time.
