Hard day climbing and descending Fuller Ridge of the Mt San Jacinto area. We encountered a bit of patchy snow on our traverse downward but it wasn’t bad.
Pretty uneventful day of hiking but we are out of the pine forest and back into the desert. We decended all day and have another 13 miles of decent tomorrow to reach Interatate 10 and trail Angels Ziggy and the Bear. Enterprise will pick us up there to get our rental. Three other hikers are interested in the rental so if they decide to come it will be pretty cheap to get there- cheaper per person and 4 hours faster than the bus option.
Windy again tonight. There is a storm system comming in tomorrow night and lasting into Saturday. The San Jacinto mountains are forecast to get several inches of snow- so we will be getting into town at the right time.
I’m a bit surprised by the weather. It hasn’t been at all what I was expecting it to be. Maybe it is because we are in an El Niño year- I don’t know. In other weather news, I heard that the Sierra got 6 feet of new snow last week. I heard another hiker saying Kennedy Meadows may not even open up until mid June- sure to put a wrench in a lot of hikers plans if true. The weather really isn’t cooperating this year on the PCT but there isn’t anything you can do about it except deal with it accordingly. May have to flip north and skip the high Sierra and come back when the snow is more manageable- may not be a bad option…
I think our friends Beardoh and Sweet Pea started today at the border. If you are reading this Carolyn and I wish you happy hiking!
