Zero Day
We decided it was best to spend another day in Julian to recover before starting again. Not hiking any miles is a called a “zero day” in hiker lingo. There is also another wind advisory today into tomorrow, with gusts up to 50 mph again on the desert mountain slopes which also factored into staying another day in town.
We spent the day lounging around and took a mid afternoon nap. We went and got some apple pie down the road which one slice is provided for free to PCT hikers if you show them your permit.
After pie, we walked the streets of the quaint town and window shopped amongst a cider mill, old antique stores and bought food for the next few days on the trail.
We ended the day with pizza and a game of Yahtzee back at the hotel. Tomorrow we will eat breakfast and hitch hike back to the trail to continue our walk north.
From Carolyn’s journal:
Yachtzee! Mom would be proud you two haha. Sounds like you needed a rest day, glad you guys are having fun and enjoying the journey. Love you!
Best of luck as you hit the trail again! We are currently in Germany.
