I slept pretty good and was on the road by 7:30. The world suddenly opened up and now I was in the desert. There were canyons and big rivers and mountains in the distance. It was very beautiful.

I stopped 30 miles in at Seminole Canyon State Park. It was a pretty cool canyon and there were petroglyphs near the bottom. You needed to pay for a tour to go see them, so I was pretty satisfied looking at pictures of the petroglyphs in the Visitors Center.

They had a lot of neat history stuff of the area and I putzed around for awhile reading everything. The Native Americans used to perform a certain kind of bison hunting called “Bison Jump”. They would basically chase a herd of bison over a canyon cliff and all the bison would fall to their deaths. Kind of a gruesome way to hunt but pretty effective I would imagine.

Short day today because the next town is 55 miles away from here. There’s a whole lot of nothingness out here, just desert. I don’t think I even saw any ranches today. The only cars on the road are RVs and Semis. I’m in this small little town called Langtry. There’s nothing going on here but they have a community center where they let cyclists camp on the lawn. It over looks the desert and some canyons into Mexico and it’s quite pretty.

Back into the great nothingness tommorrow.
