I had a good night at the youth building and woke up around 6:30. I grabbed some breakfast right next store per Jebs recommendation and Yelp. The food was really good but unfortunately I found a dead cockroach in the hallway while using the restroom. It was a gross and monstrous thing and I told the guys working there. They thanked me and cleaned it up. It was pretty disgusting. My wife was a health inspector for restaurants back in the day and I wonder if she would have walked out! Ill have to ask.
The morning ride was pretty great as I made my way along the coast to Fort Morgan. As soon as I entered Alabama there was a large Trump/Pence bus and volunteers were selling Make Amrica Great Again merchandise, hats and shirts and stickers, that sort of thing. A lot of people were gathered around the bus taking their picture with it. I snapped a photo myself and kept riding.
In Fort Morgan there is a ferry that shuttles you across Mobile Bay and I made it there around noon. I hung around for an hour waiting for the 1:15 ferry chatting with a nice couple from Mystic Connecticut. They had been boating all around the US since 2015 and they had some intersting stories to share. When the ferry arrived I rolled my bike onto the boat and enjoyed a nice 30 minute leisurely ride across the bay. Several oil riggers were out on the bay but only a few looked operational. The ferry takes you to Daughin Island where I’m camping tonight, underneath the house of another warm showers host. They aren’t here right now but they let cyclist camp on thier property. I talked with John, the owner, on the phone and he seemed really pleasent.
Two more days riding and I’ll be in New Orleans to visit my friend Matt and his girlfriend. Pretty excited to take a few days off.
