We woke up early and headed 3 miles to the road to hitch into Burny. Once there we decided to grab some breakfast at a close by diner before going to the grocery store, to prevent buying up the place on very hungry stomachs.
During breakfast I checked my email to see if Carolyns new shoes she ordered arrived at Burny State Park. To our disappointment Amazon F’d up and actually didn’t have her size in stock (even though the website listed them) so they canceled our order. Plan B was then to go to the sports store in town to buy some shoes, of which they only carried Sketchers and Fila (Yes, I was surprised Fila made shoes as well). I felt really bad for Carolyn as she sat there teary eyed trying on all these B movie treads. Eventually she settled on a pair of Filas which actually don’t look half bad and seem to be okay. She will try these at least for this next section and if the trial period is negative we will try and get some shoes shipped again.
She is also having a bad pain in her left foot, just under the toe next to the big toe in the area where it connects to the main part of the foot. At first we thought it was a blister but now we aren’t sure. This is the second day it’s been bothering her and this afternoon she described it as a piece of glass stabbing into her foot. There is no blistering or evidence of rash or foot rubbing, making me nervous that it may be something structural. Well see how it feels tommorrow and go from there.
My chafe seemed to go away. In town I googled what makes a butt chafed, and apparently it’s due from dry sweat where the tiny salt particles rub with the skin. If it is hot I am going to use a wet wipe when we takes breaks during the day. I tried this in the afternoon and it seemed to work. I also bought something called “Anti Monkey Butt” just in case it happens again.
