In 2017 my three hiking friends and I decided it was a good idea to canoe down the Mississippi River. We started at the headwaters in Lake Itasca, Minnesota, and meandered our way 2,200 miles south to the Gulf of Mexico, arriving 75 days later. It was a unique adventure, sometimes fun, often beautiful, but mostly monotonous. I’d like to canoe more in the future, but something less intense (and much shorter). It’s certainly an amazing way to get outside and spend time exploring the natural landscape.
I wrote a guide about my adventure. If you are considering paddling the entire Mississippi, please check it out.
